KORONADAL CITY | The Regional Alternative Child Care Office (RACCO) XII conducted a Technical Sharing Session (TSS): Parental Capability Assessment and Report, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, via Google Meet. The session was attended by the Adoption and Alternative Child Care focals from the Provincial, City, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices, Child Caring Agencies, and the Provincial, Municipal Link and Social Welfare Officer III of the 4Ps program of the DSWD of Region XII.

The Technical Sharing Session aims to profile social workers in the local government units and agencies on their experience with Parenting Capability Assessment, assess their familiarization with the process, provide accessible training for adoption and alternative childcare, and orient them on standard forms and case management processes, while also enriching their knowledge of tools and methodologies for PCA and PCAR preparation, as highlighted by Ms. Jollybelle B. Arogante, RSW, OIC – RACC Officer during her welcome message and presentation of the Rationale.

The discussion covered five key topics: Introduction to Parenting Capability Assessment, Methods and Tools, Key Concepts of Parenting Capability Assessment, Ethical Considerations in Parenting Assessment, and Case Example and Practical Application. Dr. Camelia Alangca Taha, RSW, DiDS, chairperson of the Regional Child Placement Committee, was one of the resource persons who comprehensively discussed the Key Concepts of Parenting Capability Assessment and the Ethical Considerations in Parenting Assessment. Dr. Taha emphasizes Parenting Capability Assessment as a crucial tool for child welfare, balancing objective analysis with empathy and ethical practice, aiming for the best outcome for the child.

This initiative provides the Regional Alternative Child Care (RACCO) XII partners and focal with the updates on the technicalities and key concepts and further enhances their skills in conducting Parenting Capability Assessment Report (PCAR). Further strengthening the pool of social workers of the region involved in children and families leading to their best welfare and interest.
